The Flash Charging Network
BYD's 'Flash Charging' technology is a game-changer, offering an incredibly rapid charging experience. These stations can charge a battery from 10% to 97% in a mere nine minutes, providing an astonishing 1,500 kW DC per connector. This is a significant leap forward in addressing one of the most significant pain points of EV ownership: long charging times.
The company's initial goal was to build 20,000 flash chargers in China by the end of 2026, with 2,000 of these on highways. By April 1, they had installed 5,000 chargers in 297 cities across China, a remarkable achievement in just 27 days. As of June 17, BYD had completed just over a third of its target, with 6,682 chargers in 321 cities. This raises questions about their ability to meet the full goal by the end of the year, especially considering the more challenging second half of the year.

BYD's ambitions don't stop at China's borders. The company aims to deploy 6,000 flash chargers outside China, with a significant focus on Europe, where they plan to install 3,000 stations.
